Picking the right kayak for you

In order to pick the right kayak for yourself, you need to first have a clear idea of where you are going. Wisegeek.com’s anonymous writer shares, “Kayak camping is an outdoor sport which involves paddling kayaks to a camping site and spending the night. A kayak camping trip can last overnight, or much longer, depending on personal taste, and campsites can be reached through rivers, lakes, or the open ocean.”

the right kayak for you“Plan your trip so you have at least a rough idea of where you plan to kayak. If you’re going to kayak alone, let someone know your plans and have a set time to check in with that person. Look at things like tides and weather for the area.”

Aside from knowing where you are headed, you need to also need to be respectful of the lands you are going to be visiting. “Most land is owned by someone and you don’t want to get in trouble for trespassing. Don’t camp in areas that are clearly marked as private property. Keep your fire under control and dig privy holes for going potty. Take all your garbage with you when you leave your campsite.”

You need to be respectful of the places you visit, obviously, but what else do you need to do to prepare for the trip? “Once you double check that you have all your supplies, have the supplies loaded on the boat and have put in a fun day of kayaking, you just need to find a place to crash”.

The kayak has to be wide enough for you. Narrow kayaks are for professionals and experts. Wisegeek shares, “Properly preparing for a kayak camping trip is crucial, and will make the experience more enjoyable. As you become more experienced with kayak camping, you will learn about the gear that works best for you, the climate, and the environment.” (http://www.wisegeek.com/what-equipment-do-i-need-for-kayak-camping.htm). So, it is something you get better at by time. The more you go kayaking, the better you will get at it as a

Continuing with advice before you go kayaking, “The gear for kayak camping starts, of course, with a kayak and paddles. Always bring extra paddles along, in case of accidents. Depending on what kind of vehicle you have, you can strap the kayak or kayaks on top, or tow a trailer with your kayaks strapped on” Wisegeek.com explains.

Aside from packing food and water, “packing a tent or tarp is an excellent idea, especially in cooler areas or in a region where rain is likely. In addition to food which can be eaten straight, you may want to expand your options by packing a cook stove, and you should also pack pots, pans, and utensils to cook and eat with. Try to focus on high energy foods which are easy to prepare,” shares Wisegeek.com
